Salem Cyclist Struck in Hit-and-Run on Stumpy Lane

Update: Pennsville Police Locate Suspect Vehicle

Narrative

On Sunday, May 7th, 2023, at approximately 10:30 AM, the Pennsville Township Police Department responded to a report of a hit-and-run involving a cyclist on Stumpy Lane.

Upon arrival, officers located the victim, a 52-year-old male resident of Salem County, lying on the side of the road with serious injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was riding his bicycle westbound on Stumpy Lane when he was struck from behind by a motor vehicle.

Suspect Vehicle Located

Through the course of the investigation, detectives were able to locate the suspect vehicle, a silver 2015 Honda Accord, which had been reported stolen from a Pennsville residence earlier that morning.

The vehicle was recovered in a wooded area off of Auburn Road in Pennsville Township.

Arrests and Charges

Based on evidence collected at the scene and through the investigation, the Pennsville Township Police Department has charged 23-year-old Daniel Carter of Pennsville Township with the following offenses:

  • Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury
  • Assault by Auto
  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle

Carter was taken into custody without incident and is currently being held in the Salem County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.

Victim's Condition

The victim remains in critical condition at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ.
