Soccer: Girona must forget all about last season's dream run, Michel says

After a disappointing end to the season, Girona need to move on according to their manager.

Girona boss Michel has urged his players to forget about last season's "dream run" and focus on the new campaign after the Spanish side's relegation to the second division.

Michel's comments came after Girona's 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in their final game of the season.

The Catalan club had been on a remarkable run of form since winning promotion to the top flight in 2017, finishing 10th in their first season and then qualifying for the Europa League the following year.

However, they were unable to maintain their momentum this season and were relegated back to the second division after finishing 19th.

Michel said: "We have to forget about last season. It was a dream run, but it's over now.

"We need to focus on the new season and try to get back to La Liga as soon as possible."

Girona will be hoping to make a quick return to the top flight, but they will face stiff competition from the likes of Real Zaragoza, Huesca and Elche.

Michel has already begun to reshape his squad for the new season, with a number of players leaving the club and several new signings arriving.

It remains to be seen whether Girona can recapture the form that saw them qualify for the Europa League two years ago, but Michel is confident that his team can bounce back.
